Black Women in the Workplace - The European Perspective
Mckinsey and LeanIn.org have highlighted the experiences of Black women in the US, but what about Black women in Europe and how can we bring depth and showcase nuance around this experience?
Last year, was the first time we did a call for a pan-European report that focussed on Black women’s experience in the workplace but from the perspective of driving solutions rather than looking at it from a standpoint of feelings.
Our survey centred the experience of Black women by most critically asking them what they needed from their organisations and not from the perspective of what more they need to do.
While we firmly believe that improvements are needed on both sides, what our research has shown so far, is that despite being, in most cases overqualified, there is no space being created for Black women.
Which disputes the claims, that Black female talent cannot be found and affirms the systemic barriers that prevent progression.
Naming the barriers and then also being able to create solutions to dismantle them is why this research is so important.
